Ready for a winter vacation in Savannah? Georgia’s oldest city turns into a wonderland during the winter, with plenty of activities and events during the holidays and after.

After all, our winters are short and offer pleasant temperatures with highs in the low 60s and overnight lows around 40 degrees. That makes winter the perfect time to rent an historic district cottage in the heart of all the action.

There are still plenty of holiday activities during the last week of December and into the first of January. 

December Nights & Holiday Lights continues as the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens through Dec. 23.

Take a trip back in time with an Old Town Trolley Holiday Sights tour with stops at the Isaiah Davenport House and Massie Heritage Center. Tours, which continue through Christmas Eve, includes a visit with Santa, a toy workshop and plenty of Christmas lights.

The Davenport House also welcomes visitors for a Holiday Evening Tour by Candlelight on Dec. 26-30. The event includes period dancing.

New Year’s Eve in Savannah

Ring in 2019 with the Rockin’ New Year’s Eve show at the Savannah Theatre or the City Market New Year’s Eve Celebration.

Or bring in the new year with a bang at the New Year’s Eve fireworks at Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion. The fun keeps rolling after the first of the year with the Tybee Polar Plunge at noon on Jan. 1, also at the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion.

More Winter Events in Savannah

Art lovers can take in “The Language of Vision: Early Twentieth-Century Photography” exhibit at the Jepson Center through Jan. 13. 

Sports fans may prefer watching four of the South’s premier collegiate hockey programs face-off hockey in the Savannah Hockey Classic at the Savannah Civic Center on Jan. 18-19.

There’s plenty of other cultural activities to keep you engaged including MountainFilm on Tour festival on Jan. 24-26, an array of events from Feb. 1-18 as part of the 29th Savannah Black Heritage Festival and the Savannah Book Festival on Feb. 14-16.

With so many great winter events in Savannah, there’s plenty to keep you from having the winter blues.
