The Mickve Israel Temple Was Constructed in 1878
Tours are held of the Mickve Israel Temple Monday through Friday from 10AM until 4 PM (Jewish and major holidays excluded) at 20 Wayne Street, which is where the entrance for the tours are located. As you explore the beauty of the structure, you’ll learn the history of the Jewish pioneers that landed on America’s virgin shores in 1733, 43 years before we became a nation. The sacrifices made in those early years are evident in the displays, exhibits, and artifacts found throughout Mickve Israel Temple, just as their strength and determination can be spied in the structure you will be exploring.
Containing two of the oldest Torah scrolls in America, a Holocaust Torah, and even some letters from many of our early presidents, including George Washington, the museum is a shining example of not just Jewish history, but of American history. A gift shop is located on the premises, allowing guests to purchase a memorial of their visit. For those looking for traditional gifts, this is the perfect place to shop.
If you are planning on visiting Savannah on the 28th of October, the Shalom Y’all Food Festival is scheduled to be held in Monterey Square from 11 AM until 3 PM. Admission is free, and food tickets can be purchased at that time. For 30 years this festive feast has been a popular attraction in the Savannah area.
