Much of Savannah has re-opened, offering plenty of attractions and activities for visitors to enjoy. These are a few favorites but check back for an updated list as sites are re-opening daily.
Take a Trolley Tour
Old Savannah Tours is back up and running, if on a limited basis. They are currently offering the popular hop-on-and-off tour, an historic overview tour and two ghost tour options: Grave Encounters and Boo Y’all. These fun tours give visitors a chance to explore the city, and some of its most well-known characters. Old Savannah Tours has taken the Savannah Safe Pledge to stop the spread of COVID-19 with cleaning and disinfecting protocols.
Visit the Market
City Market offers a wonderful mix of bistros, galleries and music to enjoy by day by strolling the shaded courtyard between two Savannah squares. It’s also a great place to catch a trolley or carriage tour from Savannah’s historic center.
Get Your Motor Running
While not exactly heading out on the highway, you can imagine it at the Savannah Classic Cars Dealer and Museum. The showroom features vintage and rare automobiles like a 1951 Chevrolet Deluxe Convertible, a ’56 Corvette, a 1972 Challenger and many more. There’s plenty of parking. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Peek Inside
Get a glimpse inside some of Savannah’s stately, grand old homes. Some of Savannah’s historic homes are open, including the Andrew Low House Museum on Lafayette Square, Davenport House Museum on State Street and the Harper Fowlkes House with its beautiful home and garden.
Celebrate History and Culture
Several museums celebrating the area’s history and culture are also open, though some offer limited days and hours. Those include the Webb Military Museum (open noon to 4 p.m. daily), American Prohibition Museum, the Pin Point Heritage Museum featuring Gullah and Geechee culture, Georgia State Railroad Museum (Closed Mondays and Tuesdays) and Old Fort Jackson, an open-air historic space.
A Garden Party
The Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens at the Historic Bamboo Farm is located just 15 miles from downtown Savannah. The Botanical Gardens is made up of a dozen distinct garden areas that feature crape myrtles, iris, various shrubs, a bamboo collection, herbaceous perennials, a rose garden, teaching gardens, orchid greenhouse and more. It is open from 10-4 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with a no-contact check-in process.
To Understand the Living …
One of Savannah’s most beautiful and beloved attractions, Bonaventure Cemetery has re-opened for tours. No Savannah trip is complete without a visit to this iconic Southern Gothic site, which transcends time and has provided inspiration for writers, poets, artists, photographers and filmmakers. Guests and guides must wear masks, and groups are limited to nine per guide.
