If you already love Savannah, you know there is something to do, eat, or see on just about every street, corner, and in between! If you prefer a “short list” (or maybe you only have a short time to visit), we’ve compiled a pared down list of some of our favorites.
Forsyth Park
Thirty acres of beautiful space to stretch out in the grass, have a picnic, or stroll through the Fragrant Garden. Just make sure to snap a selfie with the famous water fountain at the center!
River Street
This lively area along the Savannah River is rich with history as well as unique shops and cafes. Pubs, souvenirs, galleries…you’ll find it all here as you stroll along the quaint cobblestone streets.
Wormsloe Historic Site
Just a short drive from downtown Savannah lies the ruins of the oldest standing structure in Savannah. The iconic avenue surrounded by a canopy of live oak trees and Spanish moss is a photo op you won’t want to miss. This park also has nature trails, gravesites, historic ruins and guided tours.
Leopold’s Ice Cream
Who doesn’t love ice cream? Since 1919, Leopold’s has been serving up smiles with their award-winning homemade recipes. You can also find sandwiches, soups and other fresh-baked goodies!
Beer Sampling
Savannah is home to several local breweries worth checking out. Tour facilities, meet other craft beer aficionados and savor the local flavor. Southbound Brewing Co., Coastal Empire Beer Co., and Service Brewing Co. are just a few options!
Mercer-William House Museum
While this beautiful home is historically significant, it’s best known for being the site of the murder of Danny Hansford in 1981 (you probably know it as “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil”). Now a museum, you can enjoy guided tours.
Cathedral of St. John the Baptist
This Cathedral, known as the “Sistine of the South” is one of the top 10 historic sites to see in the United States. The French Gothic style church features impressive stained-glass windows, marble columns and exquisite murals.
Broughton Street
This street is full can’t miss stops and shops including The Paris Market, Leopold’s Ice Cream, and Civvies. Also check out the American Prohibition Museum and The Lucas Theatre.
Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room
For 75 years this former boardinghouse turned restaurant has been serving up Southern specialties that will make your taste buds and your soul smile. Biscuits, collard greens, fried chicken, okra gumbo, and meatloaf are all shared family style at large tables. The best part? Food isn’t served until the table is full, so you are sure to meet new friends as you pass the peas.
Take a Riverboat Cruise
Board a paddle-driven riverboat for an unforgettable tour of the historic Savannah waterfront and enjoy dinner and entertainment. There are many options, from sightseeing, moonlight cruises and even gospel cruises!
