Must-do List for Savannah GA Vacations

Jones Street is an east-west route through the downtown area. It is about nine city-blocks long, yet it does not intersect with any of the famous public squares. Instead, it is an architectural showcase of historic homes and converted townhouses. Most of the shops in this area are part of the Downtown Design District. Walk the promenade and browse antique shops, art galleries and high-end stores where you are most likely to find something made by a local artisan or something rare or both.

Fine dining options abound. Some of the popular options that are within walking distance to Jones Street Retreat include Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room on Clary’s Café on opposite ends of Jones Street. The sprawling Forsyth Park is within walking distance while the Mercer-Williams House Museum is on the southwest end of Monterey Square. Check out the Savannah College of Art and Design on Bull Street for eclectic exhibits.

Jones Street Retreat is a retreat in the truest sense of the word and one that will keep you coming back to Savannah.

Sweet Retreat

Great location on a quiet part of Jones Street. The private parking space leading into the private courtyard was a great convenience. The well-manicured landscaping and seating in the courtyard was ideal for morning coffee and evening cocktails. The rental was clean with a modestly decorated interior, although we found the furniture a bit uncomfortable for our taste. The king bed was comfortable and the large wall mounted tv was a bonus. The kitchen offered the minimum amenities needed to prepare a meal. The bathroom was small but adequate. The sink base cabinet was large for the space; a pedestal sink would fit the space better. Water pressure and ample hot water were not an issue. The ac was a bit confusing since the main house unit was in a closet and there were vents on the ceiling, but we didn't find control for it. However, a dedicated mini split unit mounted in the back sitting room kept the bedroom comfortable. We did meet the owners who live upstairs; they were extremely friendly and we never felt any intrusion during our stay. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend Jones St. Retreat for anyone looking for a quiet space, a courtyard, and the convenience of a parking spot which is rare to find with rentals in Historic Savannah.

Accommodations were wonderful, and the location was perfect! We were able to walk to all of the beautiful sites in Savannah. Enjoyed seeing the immense talent starring in Mamma Mia at the Historic Theater, and loved participating in a cooking school with Chef Jason at The Mansion on Forsyth Park. So many wonderful ways to enjoy this historic city!

Are owners notified when guests are staying at their property? We were startled when a person unlocked and opened the back door and called out "is anyone here?". I approached and said "who are you" he told me he was the owner and did not know someone was staying. You might want to double check that owners are notified. Secondly, the property at the time I reserved it was also listed on VRBO at a lower price, it directed me to Southern Belle which had a higher price, I was technically unable to reserve it on VRBO (did not allow me to). I was sorry to have paid a higher price that I saw elsewhere. Hope this all is valuable feedback, we really enjoyed the property very much, and kudos to the cleaning staff, it was very clean (as I said, I stay often in Savannah and some are better than others!). Regards, Mr. Lucvinko

Jones Street Retreat was the perfect location for our long weekend in Savannah. The ease of access and private off-street parking made it very easy to get in and out and spend more time exploring the historic district. The bed and linens were very comfortable and all amenities were exactly as described. The courtyard makes for a perfect morning or evening relaxation spot. We would definitely rent this unit again!

This is a great place to stay, however, it should be re-listed as 2-person max. Based on the pictures of the property, it looked as though one of the couches would be a pull out bed, which would have worked fine for our daughter. Upon arrival, we noted that most of the furnishings had been changed and in place of the couches were rattan seats/sofas. We checked all open closets for a roll-away bed but did not see anything, so I called the office and was told the extra bed was an inflatable mattress. We decided against using it as it would mean taking up what little floor space there is, so our daughter slept on one of the rattan couches. It worked out fine in the end, but you should really either list the property as 2-person, or explain the third bed is a blow-up. Had we known this ahead of time, we would have likely found a different property. We'd be happy to come back as a couple, but the lack of a real bed - even a pull-out - should be noted. Thanks.

We so enjoyed our stay at this location. I had a few tears in my eyes as we pulled away for the last time. We've previously stayed at other vacation rentals in the district that are managed by another "luxury" company. This property, especially the courtyard, was clean and tiday and helped me relax. I can't say the same for our last time at the other property. I did notice that one of the straps on the courtyard chair needs repaired. If there is a resident upstairs, I never saw or heard them -I only saw a car in the parking space next to us.

Jones Street Retreat was perfect! As first time visitors of Savannah, we loved the location of this property. We were able to walk everywhere from Jones Street - maybe a 15 minute walk to the downtown area, while still being on a beautiful quiet street. The parking spot was clutch and the garden area in the back entrance was so pretty. The bed was super comfortable and we overall loved the property. Would absolutely stay here again and recommend to any parties of 2.

It was an enjoyable and successful holiday vacation there. The property has its very special characteristics of a historical Savannah. With a clean and well-equipped kitchen, it makes life easy for those who want to do self-catering on some evenings without having to walk back home in the dark after the restaurant meal. I certainly enjoyed cooking the meaty and yummy lobsters on certain evenings and the late brunch on certain days when we were too tired to go out. Lastly but not the least, I have enjoyed the tranquility and peace in the property and its vicinity.

This is one of the best values in downtown accommodations. We read other reviews that were negative, but we felt that the reasons were not a deterrent for us. The negative reviews were that it was musty inside, the doors stuck and were hard to lock, parking was not available, WiFi did not work, walking downtown from this location was unsafe, and that there were no housewares. Most of these were true, but every other aspect was perfect and we could over look those issues due to the price. The house is a bit musty (mildew smell)and the locks were sometimes hard to use, but this is an old home and I think that these things could be expected. The property was in superb condition and spotless. There was parking with the property and it was always available. The code for the WiFi did not work, but we did not address it with the property manager because we only used the house to sleep and shower. It was very quite. This house is in as safe of an area as any in downtown Savannah. There is plenty of pedestrian traffic to and from downtown. If you are worried about safe travel then I recommend a pedicab. We did not hear any noise from upstairs or outside. There were plenty of kitchen items even though we did not use any of them. The property only had air conditioning in one room. It was a little warmer than we would have liked, but I could say the same about hotel rooms that are more expensive and much louder. I highly recommend this property at $150 per night. It is the best value in all of downtown that I am aware of.

Thoroughly enjoyed every minute! We stayed so busy trying to see as much as we could. We didn't have time to enjoy the house as much as we would have liked. But it was nice to know we had a quiet, peaceful, and comfortable place to come back to. Thank you for helping make our trip to Savannah a wonderful experience!

Everything met our expectations. The home was very clean and we really appreciated all of the little amenities that we had. Again, only complaint was not being able to control the central A.C. since the bedroom gets really stuffy. But other than that the house was great.

Overall a good experience. The only negative was the email and rental information sent to us had said that there would be an ironing board and a hair dryer and we couldn't find them. Not a big deal, that's why we didn't call you. Just wanted to let you know for your future rental of that property
