With the onset of fall, comes a full slate of activities in Savannah, a city known for its hospitality.
The highlight of September is the Savannah Jazz Festival, which takes place Sept. 18-24. The exciting lineup starts on Sept. 18 with a showing of “Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool” at the Lucas Theatre. Other ticketed events include Blues Night on Sept. 19, and Latin Dance Nights on Sept. 20 at the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum, and a showing of “Ranky Tanky” on Sept. 21 at the Lucas Theatre. Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy free concerts Sept. 22-24. Music starts at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22 and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23 at Forsyth Park. A free Sunday concert at the Riverside District features four regional school bands.
Get a taste of Savannah at the Food Truck Expo, set Sept. 15-17 as part of the Unity in the Community monthly arts and crafts fair on River Street. The event takes place at Rousakis Plaza.
Check out the creativity and expertise of teams that design and build structures entirely out of cans at the Annual CANstruction competition, Sept. 14-Oct. 1 at Jepsen Center for the Arts & Telfair Academy. After the judging, the cans of food go to America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia.
Crafts on the River at Savannah’s Waterfront is set from 10 a.m. to 4 pm. on Sept. 22-24, with more than 50 vendors displaying handmade items. Browse the booths of woodcrafts, local photography, original art, candles, soap, specialty foods, jewelry, apparel, and more.
Visit Bonaventure After Hours on Saturdays during September with an evening storytelling tour. Get an insider’s view into the intriguing past of the historic Bonaventure Cemetery and its departed inhabitants. The two-hour tour gives participants a chilling experience.
Visit an independent coffee shop for National Coffee Day on Sept. 29. One of our favorite is the Sentient Bean Coffee Shop and Cafe, 13 E. Park Ave. The shop serves organic, fair trade specialty coffee beverages and made-from-scratch vegetarian fare.
