These are not typical times for vacation, so it’s a good thing Savannah is anything but typical. In fact, the city is a perfect place to get away from it all while social distancing. It’s almost like the city was built for it with 22 Historic Squares and several parks, including Morrell right on the river. And what better way to enjoy these outside spaces than with a picnic?

Savannah’s restaurants are committed to making safe and healthy spaces for their customers.

Whether you’re in the mood for seafood, steak, locally sourced specialty dishes or good old-fashioned Southern cooking, Savannah’s eateries offer plenty of menu items available for pickup or delivery.

The No. 1 spot for a picnic is your own backyard. Pick up a delicious to-go meal at one of the renowned Savannah restaurants like Garibaldi cafe or Fiddler’s Crab House, both in the Historic District. and enjoy in the private courtyard dining area at our Carly’s Retreat property or by the swimming pool at our luxury Diplomat House, both also located in the Historic District.

An added bonus: If you prefer to prepare your own picnic meal, grocery delivery is available as well.

Most residents and visitors agree the grassy fields of Forsyth Park make a wonderful spot to spread out a blanket, kick back and relax. With more than 30 acres, the park offers plenty of sunshine, but also shady oaks to find the perfect picnicking space away from any crowds. Visitors will immediately recognize the park’s iconic fountain as one of the most photographed places in Savannah. The nearby Sentient Bean is open for pickup, take-out and delivery. Order gluten-free tacos, wraps or paninis for your picnic lunch. Or shop Brighter Day Natural Foods Market at 1102 Bull St. for fresh produce, organic deli items and Grab-n-Go salads and sandwiches.

Several other squares are also favorites for a picnic, including Whitefield Square, with its quaint gazebo and shade trees. Whitefield Square is a quiet spot surrounded by beautiful houses and historic churches. Wright Square is beautiful and filled with history. It’s also next to Wright Square Cafe, open Wednesday through Saturday, where you can pick up a to-go and imported chocolates. What could make a better lunch?

Because you’ll be enjoying Savannah’s plethora of public spaces, stay in a property facing one of its historic squares. Vacation homes may have a historic look, but they’ve been upgraded with modern conveniences like wi-fi, gourmet kitchen appliances, washers and dryers and more.

Southern Belle Vacation Rentals has added an additional step using high-end quaternary disinfectants to use in our homes. As always, homes are cleaned after each stay prior to each new arrival.
