Summer is not the only time to make an escape to the beach. Watch the skies above North Beach fill with color during the 8th Tybee Island Kite Festival on Sunday, Nov. 3. Last year, more than 160 kites flew through the air during the event, held from noon to 5 p.m. at the North Beach Bar and Grill. The event supports patients with Parkinson’s and other movement-restricting conditions. For a $10 donation, participants enjoy the kite-flying festivities along with some mouth-watering gumbo. Bring a kite and support a worthwhile cause.
A Quiet Beach
Folks visit Tybee Island for the beach, and there are lots of options including South Beach and North Beach, along with the back-river beaches. The back beaches are great for families with small children as the water is a bit calmer. You’ll discover lots of space along Tybee Island beaches, especially this time of year when the crowds are gone, and seclusion is primo. The days may be cooler, but you can still build sandcastles, spy dolphins rollicking in the water and enjoy walking the beach at sunset.
Bike Riding Is a Breeze
With mild temperatures and less traffic, November is great for exploring Tybee Island on two wheels. Bring your bicycle or rent one from Fat Tire Bikes, and Tim’s Bike & Beach Gear, or Boo’s Bikes rents electric bikes. Ask about delivery to your location. You can even ride right on the beach.

Salt Island Fish & Beer, the Crab Shack, The Deck, and North Beach Grill are other Tybee Island restaurants where you can sink your teeth into succulent seafood.
