Ahoy, mateys! Looking for a fun and very interesting way to enjoy your Columbus Day weekend? Then you’ll want to head over to beautiful Tybee Island for its eighth-annual Pirate Fest, a crazy, antic-filled festival that offers something for everyone. This is a very popular festival that attracts pirate lovers and pirate wannabees from all over the nation.
Tybee Island Pirate Festival
There will be plenty of great food and drinks, as well as lots of live music at the Tybee Island Pirate festival, including headliners Shooter Jennings and his band The Triple Crown. A1A, a wild and crazy Jimmy Buffett tribute band, will also be on hand to bring a bit of the parrot-head mentality to the festival.
The Tybee Island Pirate Fest will also have plenty to do for your youngsters, including bounce houses, entertainers, pirate demonstrations and face painting. Do your kids absolutely love the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies? Then dress them up in pirate gear so that they can participate in one of the festival’s costume contests for kids. Even if your children don’t win, they will probably have the time of their lives being pirates for the day.
Pirates Of All Ages Can Enjoy The Fun
On Saturday, pirates of all ages can enjoy a fun and wacky pirate parade, which will wind its way down Butler Street towards the beach. You can either choose to watch the pirate-filled floats or get in the mood of the festivities and participate in the parade. Just pick your poison.
Worried that you won’t have the proper attire to wear during Tybee Island’s Pirate Fest? No problem. The festival includes a Thieves Market, where you can pick up all the latest pirate gear so that you can feel right at home with the other buccaneers or have the perfect costume for Halloween or next year’s festival.
Buccaneer Ball for Adults
On Thursday night, from 7 to 10 p.m., the Tybee Island Pirate Fest will host a Buccaneer Ball for adults. You’ll want to dress in your pirate best for this party so that you have a chance at winning one of the ball’s costume contests. During the Buccaneer Ball, a pirate king and queen who will rule over the entire Pirate Fest weekend will be crowned. This ball is only open to buccaneers over the age of 18.
Tickets for the Tybee Island Pirate Fest can be purchased by the day or you can also choose a multi-day pass. Kids under 12 are free. The cost for the Buccaneer Ball is $25 for advanced tickets and $30 at the door.
The beautiful City of Tybee is located on a barrier island just 20 minutes from Savannah’s historic downtown area and is an excellent place for a day trip, especially during this special pirate-filled weekend. Visitors to Tybee will find beautiful beaches to relax on or they can enjoy some good food in one of the island’s charming restaurants.
