It can be difficult to find vacation activities everyone in the family enjoys. Especially when some of those family members are teenagers. Of course, all ages love beaches, shopping, dining out and trolley tours. Those are a given. But if you want to think outside the box, here are some options for a Savannah vacation with teens.
Plan an Escape
Match your wits and skills for a fun adventure at an escape room. They’re all the rage for kids and teens. But, adults love them, too. Escape Savannah offers an immersive experience where you choose your adventure: Zombie Apocalypse, Haunted Room, Pirate Island or the Spectrascope Quest for the Cure. Escape Tybee has two rooms with themes based on an event that actually occurred. Participants solve multiple puzzles that vary in difficulty. The Pirate room’s puzzles are a bit easier and laid back, while the Bomb’s room puzzle includes lasers, electronics, nerf guns, etc. Either way, it’s fun to play.
A Natural Fit
Teens interested in marine biology or the environment will enjoy a visit to The Marine Science Center on Tybee Island. Learn about marshes, tidal pools, sea turtles and an array of sea life. Exhibits are both outdoors and indoors, with lots of hands-on activities.
You Go, Girl!
Have a Girl Scout (or former Scout) in the family? Visit the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace, designed specifically for girls, but a place everyone loves to visit. The home celebrates Low, also known as Daisy, who organized the first Girl Scout troop in 1912. View original and period furnishings that adorn its seven rooms. Numerous works of art, including many pieces created by Daisy herself, are on display throughout the house. The tour concludes with a visit to “Girls Writing the World” interactive library exhibit. Read and explore in a space that honors Daisy’s life’s work and highlights the literary tradition that inspired her and millions of Girl Scouts throughout the last century.
Yo Ho Ho!
Wind down a day with a visit to The Pirate House, which served as a rendezvous point for pirates and seafarers dating back to 1753. The restaurant holds a lot of history, so definitely take the pirate tour after your meal. The lunch buffet is hot and loaded with Southern favorites like fried chicken, fried fish, mac and Cheese, mashed potatoes, collard greens, and more. Homemade dessert is included. Be forewarned: It’s a jovial joint, so this is not the place to go for a quiet dinner.
