Lights. Cameras. Action. Whether you’re a fan of films or travel - or both - the SCAD Savannah Film Festival is a must-do event. The Savannah College of Art and Design presents the annual Fest celebrating cinematic creativity by pros and student filmmakers. The festival takes place in-person and virtually Oct. 23-30, and tickets are already on sale.
One of the Nation’s Top Film Festivals
More than 60,000 people attend the eight-day event, with a wide range of film screenings, workshops, and other fun activities, all focused on movies. The SCAD Savannah Film Festival offers the best in independent and influential films from around the world, with more than 100 films selected from 1,500 plus entries. The festival also includes dozens of panels, workshops, and special guest interviews.
Great Performances and Performers
It’s an opportunity to see great films and performances before they make a splash with the general public. For example, Mahershala Ali was honored with the Fest’s Discovery Award before winning an Academy Award for his work in the film “Moonlight.” Other honored guests from the past include Billy Crystal, Sir Patrick Stewart, Emily Blunt, Gena Rowlands, Hugh Jackman, Daniel Kaluuya, John David Washington, Aaron Sorkin, and Lily Tomlin.
Historic District is a Perfect Setting
Of course, Savannah’s National Historic Landmark District is a world-class destination, offering plenty of culture and aesthetic green spaces to enjoy between films.
Luxury Digs
Stay close to all the action at Social on Congress, a two-bedroom historic property a couple of blocks from SCAD and walking distance to several tasty restaurants. The one-bedroom Soho Suite on Broughton is also within walking distance to the SCAD campus, along with plenty of restaurants and other historic district attractions. Those and other luxury properties make it easy to be part of the city while enjoying all that the Film Fest offers.
Tickets and passes for the 2021 festival go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, and will be available for purchase online or in-person at the Savannah Box Office at 216 E. Broughton St., or by phone at 912-525-5050.
Just don’t forget the popcorn.
