Music lovers can celebrate a couple of big events in Savannah this spring.
Book your stay now to get in on the Savannah Stopover Festival, set March 11-12 on the grounds of the Georgia State Railroad Museum. The aptly-named festival started in 2011 as a place for bands to stop and play a show while traveling I-95 en route to the South By Southwest Festival in Austin.
This year’s incredible lineup features American Aquarium, Soccer Mommy, of Montreal, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Sarah Shook & the Disarmers, Surfbort, Sam Evian, and many more - almost three dozen up-and-coming acts.
Music starts at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 11, and at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 12. The schedule gives you plenty of time between shows to explore this amazing city. Tickets are affordable at $89 for the first tier and $99 for the second tier. VIP tickets start at $184.
Next up is the more well-known of the spring music events: The Savannah Music Festival, set March 24-April 9 at various venues throughout the city. Hear an act in a church like St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox, The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist, or the Unitarian Universalist Church. Other venues include the Trustee’s Garden, Yamacraw Center for the Performing Arts, Johnny Mercer Theater, Savannah Cultural Arts Center, and Rousakis Riverfront Plaza.
Week One features Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers, Benjamin Grosvenor, The Revelers, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, and more - 13 acts in all. Week Two headlines include the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Bela Fleck, and True Blues, among others. On Week Three, see the Drive-By Truckers, Voices of Mississippi, Mike Marshall’s Stringband Spectacular, Emmet Cohen, and more.
