Summer is fun, but the days get warm during the summer. Take a break in the air conditioning at some of Savannah’s top attractions.
Book an adventure at Escape Savannah, an immersive experience. Your group can match wits and skills against clues, riddles, and puzzles within 60 minutes. Choose between two themed rooms: Escape the Haunted Room or Escape from Pirate Island. The hosts and actors dress in period costumes, which helps create a realistic experience. Four to 10 people can participate in this attraction.
Art and history lovers will enjoy the Jepson Center for the Arts. Visitors can independently browse the permanent collection and special exhibitions at their own pace. Through Aug. 28, see The Art of William O. Golding, an African-American seaman and artist who recorded a half-century of maritime experience in more than 100 vibrant drawings. Kids will get a kick out of BLOW UP: Inflated Contemporary Art on display through Sept. 18. Another Telfair Museum, the Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters, is an 1819 Regency-style mansion and estate that depicts Savannah's complex history.
For the adults, a visit to the American Prohibition Museum is a must during your summer Savannah stay. After all, the museum is one of the coolest spots in town, both figuratively and literally. See historical artifacts and displays, including four vintage cars, a functioning (and fully stocked) Speakeasy and a theater. The bar is open Wednesday through Saturday from 6:30 p.m. to midnight. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. However, the bar doesn’t serve cocktails on Sunday.
See a show at the Historic Savannah Theatre. Bring back classic cars, slicked hair and bobby sox with “Grease,” on stage July 15-31. It's electrifying! The Savannah Theatre opened in 1818, and has hosted performers including Oscar Wilde, Sarah Bernhardt and W.C. Fields.
Military buffs will enjoy a visit to the Webb Military Museum at 411 E. York St.
