We agree. It is a spectacular season to visit the coast. You are really in for a treat if you enjoy fishing. The perfect temperatures make it delightful to be out on the water, and the calm bayous and back bays around Tybee Island provide premiere fishing spots during the fall.
Cast a line from Back River Beach Fishing Pier or Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion, where it is free to fish (though you will need a Georgia fishing license). Bring your own rod and reel, and ask local fishermen what the fish are biting.
When fishing an inlet, let the outgoing water take your bait to the fish. Artificial bait, live shrimp and cut bait all work well around the Island’s creeks and tidal pools. Reel in speckled trout, whiting and flounder.
The jetties along the beach are also prime for surf fishing. Don’t worry about casting out too far. Fish run along the shore, so cast your line parallel to the beach. The best times to hook a fish are early morning and late in the day, especially during half-tides. Common species caught around the jetties and pier pilings include red drum, black drum, and sheepshead.
